PURPOSE

The Simi Valley Unified School District Personnel Commission is seeking qualified community members interested in serving as the Joint Appointee Commissioner on the Personnel Commission.

The Personnel Commission consists of three members: one appointed by the Board of Education, one nominated by the classified employees and appointed by the Board of Education, and one appointed by those two Commissioners. Each Commissioner serves a three-year term of office.

The Personnel Commission meets monthly and is responsible for administering the Merit System for classified employees. Its guiding principle is to serve as an impartial body, free from bias or the influence of any special interest group, and to ensure that all matters affecting classified employees are handled fairly and based on merit and fitness.

The current recruitment is for the Joint Appointee Commissioner position. This Commissioner is appointed by the Board-appointed Commissioner and the classified employee-appointed Commissioner.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be a registered voter.
  • Reside within the boundaries of the Simi Valley Unified School District.
  • Be a known adherent to the principles of the Merit System.
  • Not be a member of the governing board of any school district or county board of education.

Current district employees may apply; however, any employee appointed to the Personnel Commission must separate from District employment before assuming office as a Personnel Commissioner.

  • Recruitment Opens: September 10, 2026

  • Open Public Interviews and Announcement of Intended Appointee: As early as the week of September 28, 2026

  • Open Public Hearing and Appointment of Appointee: A early as October, 2026

  • Commissioner Takes Office: December 1, 2026

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Personnel Commissioners are compensated at a rate of $50.00 per meeting.
